Mining Backpack
This university project was based on the theme “mining”. I was inspired to design and create a cat-themed mining backpack. As I enjoy the aesthetic of overpacked backpacks, I wanted to include a variety of essential mining tools. My goal was to explore a hand-painted style while experimenting with new software, such as 3D Coat and Marmoset Toolbag.
I modeled the backpack in Blender, then used ZBrush to further push the shapes and silhouette while sculpting details. Although many of these sculpted details could have been painted in 3D Coat as well, I especially enjoy the sculpting phase. After finalizing the low-poly model and UV-unwrapping in Blender, I baked the textures in Marmoset, blocked out base colors in Substance Painter, and completed the hand painting in 3D Coat, which felt incredibly intuitive and was a lot of fun!
